A word from the CEO
Having studied industrial management at Chalmers University of Technology and spent many years as a management consultant with Volvo, I took over Steens Mekaniska in 2004, with the vision of creating the ideal manufacturing partner for tomorrow’s machine and production system builders.
Considerable investments have been made in creating a modern production facility and machine park adapted to the range of services we offer. We have restructured the company’s organisation and skills profile in order to become an even more flexible project and customer-oriented business. The company’s business profile has been more clearly focused on supplying systems.
We constantly strive to improve our processes, efficiency, quality, service and environmental impact in order to continuously enhance our customers’ valuation and overall experience of doing business with us. In this way, we intend to ensure that we are the natural first choice for all of our customers.
Choosing Steens should be a simple decision!
Magnus Andersson, CEO
Steens Mekaniska offers production services to customers in manufacturing industry, ranging from the manufacture and assembly of individual mechanical components and subsystems to complete machine and automation systems.
We are going through an exciting period of expansion and plan to build up and strengthen our position within complete machine and automation systems.
We are currently looking for a sales engineer to handle sales and business development within our systems business area. The definition of your role and duties may be adapted to your skills and experience. Find out more
We are looking for a thorough, inquisitive and committed person to work in an advanced machine park on one-off and low-volume production. Find out more
Bed-type milling and CNC operators for our milling machines
We are looking for someone with experience of rigging, programming and operating bed-type or CNC milling machines. You will be working with advanced machining on state-of-the-art equipment where the complexity and variety of your tasks make this a stimulating role. Find out more
Through our own resources and those of our partners, we are also able to offer services such as design, measurement, CE approval and installation of systems.
We have our own paint shop in-house for wet coating, while powder coating is performed by local partners. We can basically supply all types of surface treatment.
Our production facility and organisation allow us to offer significant capacity for both production and assembly of various types of systems. Our assembly area covers 1,500 m2 and we can assemble large complete systems of over 40 metres in length for fine-tuning and test runs.
We appoint a project manager to every system build to lead and coordinate resources and act as the point of contact. In addition to component manufacturing we also offer the options to coordinate and implement the procurement of standard components and other complementary services.
Once assembly is completed, if desired we will assist with test runs and fine-tuning of the system. If need be, you or your own partners within electrical systems, robotics, etc. can assist in assembling the system at our factory. Should you wish to invite your customers to our facility for testing and final inspection of the system, we have a conference room available for private meetings. This particular service is greatly appreciated by many of our customers.
Our state-of-the-art welding workshop, with its nine-metre-high ceiling and lifting capacity of 12.5 tonnes, provides ample swing room for even the largest components. Our highly experienced welders work with a range of different steel and aluminium alloys. We use a universal fixture system for increased efficiency and quality.
Examples of welded structures
We have extensive experience of advanced machining. We have a flexible and modern machine park, with machines programmed using a computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) system.
Our machines can manufacture components ranging in size from small to very large, with a lifting capacity of up to 12.5 tonnes.
We work with vertical 3-axis machines and horizontal 4 and 5-axis machines. For large structures and components, we have bed and floor-type milling machines.
Floor-type milling machines
For machining very large components, we use a floor-type milling machine.
Our large floor-type milling machine has a working area of 14 x 4 x 1.5 metres and is equipped with a 2.5 x 2.5 metre rotary table and a milling head indexed to 0.001o on two axes to allow machining of oblique planes and holes. The machine’s size, flexibility and level of equipment mean that we can machine large, complex components with high precision.
Bed-type milling machines
For machining large components, we have state-of-the-art bed-type milling machines with working areas up to 4.5 x 2 x 1.2 metres. They are equipped with e.g. automatic tool changers, guided cutting heads and rotary tables.
For complex components that require 5-axis milling, we have milling machines with working areas up to 950 x 850 x 650 mm, with the option of simultaneous machining. For larger components, see bed-type and floor-type milling machines.
We have 4-axis horizontal machines with working areas up to 640 x 680 x 680 mm.
We have 3-axis vertical machines with working areas up to 3048 x 1016 x 762 mm.
We carry out CNC turning with a working area up to 370 mm in diameter and 865 mm in length with powered tools. We also offer capstan turning with diameters up to 510 mm and length 1500 mm.
